After long flight from Newark and long drive through France, we arrived in this wonderful French town. Because it’s Monday, only two restaurants were open for dinner. But it’s France, so it doesn’t matter because the food is still gorgeous. A lovely French-Italian couple, who didn’t speak a word of English and we don’t speak Italian or, embarrassingly, French, nonetheless engaged us in a conversation about Peter Gabriel. I love Peter Gabriel, but this man is absolutely besotted. His wife had on a t-shirt with a huge John Lennon pic and “Give Peace A Chance” written across it. Jim told her about the thrill he had introducing John at an Vietnam antiwar rally. It always amazes me how you can find ways of communicating even without sharing a common language.
