We are staying at what is unquestionably the most extraordinary place I’ve ever stayed in. It is a castle that was purchased by the current owner’s father from the last king of Italy. The part of the castle we are staying in is over 600 years old. The rest of the place is over 3000 years old! The pathway/road just outside of our suite’s bedroom window is a part of the historic via Roma. We are here for a few days because, once again, the villa we rented was not what was advertised, and up a very long and difficult dirt road to traverse. So we are staying in this castle as the rental agency finds us a suitable villa to house us and Bonnie’s friend and former student, Jess. Proving once again that a mishap in life can often be more than compensated for by an unexpected bit of very good fortune.
Love,
Jim

I wanna say I’m envious, but in reality I am just plain jealous. You have an attitude perfecto!
OMG!! Hope you’re all okay? I don’t like seeing the word “disaster” in a headline. But these photos cannot tell a lie. You look too happy to be unhappy! 🙂
Hi B&J,
How amazing! The castello looks spectacular. Wishing I was there with you. Lot’s of love. /A
Dear Jim and Bonnie,
So happy for the four of you. Particularly the dogs who I am sure are grateful to be able to relieve themselves on the Via Roma.
Other than Debby finding a 5 foot snake in our basement things are lovely in the mountains. I am presently sitting under the apple tree smoking a Cuban cigar and looking at them under a blue sky. When Eli finally wakes up we will jump into the pond. I have been working on a speech about Che Guevara and in defense of Cuba to be delivered at the socialism conference July 3 in Chicago. Eli is finishing up his book on the history of folk music in New York City from 1935 to 1975. Debby is putting in her garden. Love your posts, and you, Michael
Am so enjoying reading your fabulous blog – although sorry to hear about the jittery start (you must have thought this is so Groundhog Day!). Loving the concept of the Last of the Savoys’ bed head – not the usual Ikea fare although I wonder if in Italy there is a special ebay section for holy relics and discarded monarchist furniture? Roll on your London days – we can’t wait to see you! xx
